Frequently asked questions
Will removing extra spaces destroy my paragraphs?
No. "Collapse spaces" only touches runs of spaces and tabs within a line. Line breaks and blank lines between paragraphs are preserved. Use "Remove all line breaks" separately if you want a single block.
What are smart quotes and why remove them?
Word processors replace straight quotes (") with curly typographic ones (“ ”). They look better in prose but break code, CSV files and some form inputs.
What is a non-breaking space?
An invisible character (U+00A0) that looks like a space but stops text wrapping. It is common in text copied from the web and often breaks search, sorting and code.
